Many animals, including many birds, reptiles and amphibians, need UV radiation to prevent health problems.
UV lamps are available in different wattages. Choose a wattage lamp that best suits your animal and housing form.

RepTech mercury vapor lamps are available in 80 Watt (small and large) 100 and 160 Watt.
RepTech HID lamps are available in 35, 50 and 70 Watt. The wattage determines how much heat is produced and how far the UV radiation reaches from the lamp.
To ensure that enough UV radiation reaches your animals, the lamp must be placed in the terrarium. UV radiation does not pass through ordinary glass.
Do not use this type of lamp with a thermostat.
Turning the lamp on and off often shortens the service life.
Mercury vapor and HID lamps can also not be used with a dimmer.
HID lamps need a ballast to function.
For your own safety, always use a ballast that corresponds to the wattage of the lamp.
UV release reduced with aging of the lamp
Replace the lamp after about 12 months of normal (8 to 12 hours per day) use.
Use fittings that are suitable for high temperatures. Ceramic fittings are recommended.

Important

On first use, leave the lamp on for at least 3 hours. This ensures the stabilization of the glow element and prevents any damage to it.
HID lamps should be installed vertically. The lamp should shine straight down, this promotes the life of the lamp.
Never place the lamp near flammable objects.
Ensure adequate ventilation and do not cover the lamp or ballast.
If the lamp is not functioning properly, interrupt the power supply and replace the lamp immediately.
Never replace the lamp with the power supply on.
HID lamps contain small amounts of mercury. These lamps may not be thrown with the waste, but must be returned to a waste depot. This can be done for free.
