Reptiles are ectothermal and use heat from an external source to keep their body temperature at an optimal level. Most reptiles use radiant heat, directly from the sun, in combination with conduction heat coming from sun-heated surfaces such as branches, stones, or other structures that store heat. Providing this species-dependent temperature gradient in the terrarium is an important factor in successfully keeping reptiles. With the Exo Terra 100W/300W Electronic ON/OFF Thermostat you can create a well-controlled heating system that allows you to maintain the required temperature settings, similar to those in a desert or in a tropical environment. The Thermostat will also help to avoid overheating and hypothermia during hot summer days or cold winter nights. The electronic Triac switch keeps the temperature at the desired level with a much higher accuracy, compared to the usual thermostats, and eliminates gross temperature fluctuations in the terrarium. Simply connect your Heat Mat, Heat Cable or Ceramic Heater to the Exo Terra ON/OFF Thermostat, set the desired temperature and place the heat sensor where you want it. The red LED indicator will light up when the heater is working and will extinguish once the desired temperature has been reached. The thermostat’s recessed dial prevents accidental changes to temperature settings when touching the device. The waterproof external sensor can be safely used in extremely humid terrariums and aquatic setups.
