The Arcadia D3 Desert 12% Reptile T5 lamp is a HO (high output) fluorescent lamp with an essential ratio between daylight (7000 Kelvin) and ultraviolet radiation invisible to the human eye. The UV radiation present needs reptiles and amphibians to stay healthy. The amount of UV radiation depends on the type of animal and their natural habitat.
The UVA light provides a natural-looking environment, recognition of conspecifics, other animals and food. The UVB rays present ensure a absorption of vitamin D3 in the body (via synthesis of the skin). D3 ensures that calcium is absorbed during digestion. By not exposing the animals to UVB radiation, a shortage of essential nutrients can occur and can lead to diseases, deformities or premature death due to housing errors.
The T5 HO fluorescent lamps have a diameter of 16 mm and are easy to install in a special T5 luminaire or with a fluorescent ballast. Fluorescent lamps are available in different sizes, allowing larger areas in the terrarium or paludarium to be illuminated.
To increase the light intensity and/or UV output, it is advisable to use reflectors and/or by placing several T5 lamps together. T5 HO fluorescent lamps hardly emit heat, therefore it is necessary to combine these lamps with a heat lamp or heat spot, for creating a solar place.
These lamps are ideal for reptiles that originate in steppe or desert (dessert) areas, which are exposed to high UV radiation.
Lifetime
The Arcadia D3 Desert 12% Reptile T5 bulbs usually have a long burning time. The UV release is limited, which is why we recommend replacing the lamp every ± 12 months.
